Augsburg...50 klm..Easy day, Easy ride.

Heavily overcast, no wind, no hills & in the very low twenties.Perfect riding conditions. Today was a sleep in with a late 9 am start & with stops we were still at our destination by lunchtime. Yvonne is virtually cured of her knee problem, but Wendy has injured her hip, an old condition that has flared up, probably due to yesterdays heavy climbs. She soldiered on with no complaints.
I guess with 8 people involved & none of us all that young it will be musical chairs when it comes to injuries. Today we made our first contact with the Danube, but with a grey dreary sky it was a little less romantic, no complaints from any of us though with these great cycling conditions. We have been travelling the 'Romantic Road' now for about 150 klm, this is one of the most popular & scenic cycling & walking routes in southern Germany. Tomorrow we will veer off the 'Romantic Road' & head toward Munich. It will be a fairly big day with a distance of between 70 & 100 klm depending on the route. We can not plan exact distances because Google maps measures road distances, not bike tracks, plus we often have small detours for sight seeing. Another bakery smoko in a very quiet & rural Burg saw us happy to remount & continue as we were getting quite cool. After arrival & check in at a converted hospital it started to rain & has been raining ever since. The rooms here are very modern, spacious & lovely, much bigger than most hotels. Dinner was Greek & Yvonne forced me to share 2 * 0.5 litre jugs of house wine. The first one was average the second one was great. Yes we did partake of an afternoon ice cream, a traditional passtime.
Our first glimpse of the Danube. It is not blue, that comes from a story about historic wars where there were so many dead soldiers, wearing blue coats, floating in the river, that it looked blue.

A field of sugar beet.

A May pole opposite the bakery at morning tea. We have seen many of these in villages lately.

Outside the bakery.

A man made canal which we followed for quite a few kilometres.

Riding along the canal levy.

The mandatory daily group riding shot.

The bikes are parked in the city square of Augsburg as we go in search of lunch.

Across the city square, with one of the many city trams parked in front of the building.
On the way to explore Augsburg city & the markets.

Another tram leaving the mid street stop.

View from our hotel window, of the neighbouring nuns residences

  1. Glad Mums knee is feeling better. Germany looks amazing! What is a May pole? Is that where they run around it with Ribbons?
