Today was a very special day, being the first day of our bike journey fully loaded.
It was probably the most enjoyable day of cycling I have ever had. The weather was perfect with temperature in the low twenties, gloriously clear & sunny & little or no wind. We rode from Frankfurt to Aschaffenburg, a total distance of 63 klms including sight seeing detours. This part of southern Germany is just magnificent. Again we followed the banks of the Main all the way through forrests, farmlands & towns. We crossed many bridges & passed many cyclists.
There are thousands of cyclists here in Germany, many families holidaying on bikes. The hotel we are in tonight has at least 20 tour bikes parked in the beer garden ( where we had a lovely long coldie after our ride ), I think all the guests arrived on bikes, I did not see a single one arrive by car. It was Greg & Wendys' choice for dinner tonight & we went to the Vietnamese, it was excellent.
Signing off, only a short narration as it is 10.10 & the sun has just set & I am running out of light on the verandah.
Setting out once more along the Main on beautiful bike road.
Passing through farmland & strawberry fields along the banks of the river.
Kate in front of the half wood buildings in Seligenstadter, where we stopped for lunch, everything here is many hundreds of years old.
Taking a breather on another bridge over the river.
The whole group in front of a Schloss in a riverside town.
Some kind of religous ceremony taking place under the trees.
Selfie in front of a lock on the Main, Roz & Byron may remember passing through this one.
There are far more people travelling by bike here than people in cars.
I spotted this white peacock, looked kind of interesting.
Part of the gardens and church at the Schloss in Seligenstadter.
A roadside field of red poppies.
Exploring Aschaffenburg.
