Bamberg.... 62 klms

Today it was cold, 14 degrees with a biting wind & leaden skies. Morning tea was at a bakery (just for a change), it was lovely & warm inside & I had an erdberen schnite while Yvonne had a Rhabarber kuche with a coffee, both were great.
The ride itself was quite easy & we arrived at our hotel in Bamberg around 1 pm, after a riverside lunch about 20 klm out of town. I thought we had an easy ride with a tailwind for the last 20 klm, but I was told that wasn't the case, suposedly it was because I was riding sweep, (I thought it was the most difficult position). We all gathered for an afternoon walk around the town & had another of the locally made ice creams & a rauch bier (black smoked beer) which smelled & tasted a bit like salami. We had been to the bar that sells smoked beer on a previous trip & the bar people were extremely rude. (nothing has changed).
Tonight is Mike & Kates' choice for dinner & they have chosen the smoked beer bar, to experience local colour. (I'm pretty sure we will get plenty of that).
Today I left my bike pump at Schwienfurt as it was leaking & had gone to bike pump heaven. So the "song of woe" that I'm working on goes something like this so far .
As we left to say hooray,
We left out bikes in Hervey Bay,
Our luggage was left to roam the skies,
Bringing tears of sadness to our eyes,
In Frankfurt we found the bike was broke,
It was now getting beyond a joke,
I left the tube in Wertheim town
Because the tyre kept going down,
In Schweinfurt, the pump it passed away,
It was hard to think of a sadder day,
(to be continued, at least our load is getting lighter)
The trip so far...

A green & slimy water wheel at Boogersdorf on the ride today.

On the trail just outside Bamberg.

A passing long boat, it would have been warm & cozy inside.

Arrival at the hotel in Bamberg.

The Dom in Bamberg, 2 saints & 1 dead pope are inside in big stone boxes.

This is only a small part of the inside of the Dom.

Some royal residence that is a gazillion years old & the fight scene in the 3 musketeers movie was filmed right here.

Little Venice at Bamberg.

Looking up the creek that flows through the middle of Bamberg.

Yvonne buying three post cards. If you don't get one in the mail in the next few weeks, you are definately not in the inner circle.

  4. "BOOGERSDORG" - really????? Pretty sure we saw some of this stuff 2 years ago. Glad to hear that the smoke beer pub proprietors are still as rude as ever - I would hate to think they were just rude to us! Roz

    2. Yeah well.....I can't be expected to remember the name of every little dorf, burg or furt. I thought it was pretty creative just like GrossAssburg previously.
